Jazz Community Comes Together to Support Jazz WCLK Radio
3+ hour, 6+ min ago (444+ words) WCLK announcer Riva Blue and General Manager Wendy Williams (right) greet a listener at a broadcast earlier this year at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. To help recoup part of that gap, the collaboration is holding a "Back To The Roots" benefit concert on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 7 p.m. at Central Methodist Church, 501 Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr., in Atlanta. The church is located between the Morris Brown College campus and Mercedes-Benz Stadium. In July 2025, a Trump Administration decision to eliminate over $1 billion in national public broadcasting funds left stations across the country, including WCLK, facing sudden and severe budget shortfalls. The loss represents about 13% of WCLK's anticipated budget and jeopardizes quality programming, staff retention, and vital paid media training stipends for CAU students. According to WCLK General Manager Wendy Williams, the station has raised $175,000 of the shortfall. Listeners and supporters can still donate…...

7+ hour, 38+ min ago (574+ words) (CNN) "Walt Disney Animation's "Zootopia 2" and Universal's Broadway musical adaptation "Wicked: For Good" delivered movie theaters a much-needed one-two punch for the holiday weekend box office. "Zootopia 2" debuted on Wednesday, kicking off a five-day Thanksgiving opening weekend. Its $156 million estimated gross is the second-best five-day Thanksgiving debut, behind Disney's animated adventure movie "Moana 2," which opened in 2024 to $225 million domestically. "Disney has made it an event that comes virtually every year over the Thanksgiving holiday," said Paul Dergarabedian, head of marketplace trends at Comscore. "Families just embraced (Zootopia 2') in such a profound way." The end-of-year holiday season is as important to Hollywood as the highly lucrative summer season, especially when coming off of a historically bad October, noted Shawn Robbins, director of analytics at Fandango and founder of analytics firm Box Office Theory. Hollywood stuck to its formula from last year,…...
Atlanta Hawks get quality win, beat Cleveland Cavs 130-123 behind triple-double from Jalen Johnson
2+ day, 30+ min ago (423+ words) The Atlanta Hawks have a winning record, but they didn't have many quality victories this season. Other than a victory in Orlando in early November, the Hawks hadn't defeated a team over .500. That changed on Friday night as the Hawks defeated the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers 130-123. Tied at 47 with five minutes remaining in the first half, Garland went on a mini-run, throwing alley-oops and getting to the basket whenever he felt it was necessary. He and All-Star teammate Donovan Mitchell (42 points) helped the Cavs grab a 56-55 lead with 2:22 on the clock. The first half included former Hawks forward De'Andre Hunter and Gueye getting into a double-foul situation following a dunk by Hunter. The Cavs then went on an 11-0 run to pull within a point at 33-32 at the nine-minute mark. There were more than a dozen lead changes during the first half…...
First look: NY Deli's authentic NY-style bodega experience
2+ day, 6+ hour ago (501+ words) The Atlanta Voice visited NY Deli to try some of the sandwiches on the menu at what is being called Atlanta's first authentic New York-style bodega. Stepping foot into a bodega for the very first time can be a little daunting with so many options in your face; however, the smell of chopped cheese and other food items immediately makes your stomach rumble. I had the Protein Blast, which comes with almond milk and offers your choice of vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry protein flavor. I got the banana and vanilla flavor, and it is so good, and perfect for an after-gym protein shake or just a pick-me-up for the day. I also ordered the Chelsea sandwich, which features roast beef, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle mayo." Let me tell you, and I'm not exaggerating. This is good food. I was…...

2+ day, 16+ hour ago (773+ words) COLLEGE PARK, GA. " On a cool Friday morning on Main Street in College Park, a man grabs boxes out of the trunk of a car and loads them onto a hand truck. Then he and one of his employees made their way into the front door of his restaurant, Tom, Dick, & Hank." Located across the street from the MARTA station, Tom, Dick, & Hank (TDH) is one of the many restaurants that dot the city's main drag. Like many metro Atlanta restaurants, the idea for Tom, Dick, & Hank, a BBQ spot that offers smoked wings, traditional sides, burgers, fries, and drinks from its full bar, stemmed from a love of cooking with family." "I guess I always cooked, and I learned a little bit from my grandparents," Hank Johnson, 51, the man with the boxes, said." TDH was born out of hustle…...

35 million tons of food go to waste yearly in the US. Experts share tips to help stop it
3+ day, 9+ hour ago (869+ words) (CNN) "Millions of tons of food are wasted each year in the United States alone. About 35 million tons, to be specific, according to thelatest ReFED report. Some31%of food that is grown and produced goes unsold or uneaten in the US, estimates ReFED, a nonprofit organization focused on reducing food waste. Half of all the food waste comes from consumers. "That's either groceries " the strawberries that spoil in your fridge " or the meal you ordered at the restaurant and only hate half of or didn't eat the leftovers when you brought them home," said Sara Burnett, executive director of ReFED. That waste wreaks havoc on our planet, she said, noting that 35 million tons of food waste "is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emission of 154 million metric tons of carbon, which is about the same as driving 36 million passenger cars for a…...

4+ day, 2+ hour ago (1208+ words) (CNN) "The Department of Homeland Security has identified the suspect involved in the Wednesday shooting of two National Guard members, who remain in critical condition. Multiple law enforcement officials briefed on the matter told CNN the shooter's initial identification matches a man from Washington state who applied for asylum in 2024, which was granted by the Trump administration earlier this year. The two guard members had been performing "high visibility patrols" near the White House before the suspect appeared, "raised his arm with a firearm and discharged at the National Guard," said Jeffery Carroll, the executive assistant chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, during a news conference earlier Wednesday. From the look of his body language, the veteran Canadian guard was looking forward to having the next couple of nights off. Asked if he was looking forward to having Wednesday and Thursday night off before the Hawks host the Cleveland Cavaliers at State Farm Arena on Friday night, Alexander-Walker confirmed what his body was already giving off. "For sure," he said. "You get time to relax, and it's always good to mix in rest. You feel a lot lighter." Alexander-Walker hasn't gotten much rest this season, as he has played in 17 of the Hawks' 19 games.
